Wintery conditions hit Gunning for the 65th Ken Dinnerville Memorial Handicap and inaugural Barbara Wyles Handicap.
One-hundred and four starters across the two races confronted the forceful winds and cold temperatures over the 90-kilometre course through the Cullerin Range.
The Ken Dinnerville Handicap on Sunday had 78 riders on deck, each looking to take out the 65th edition of the historic handicap.
Starting from Bunch 5, Adam Hartard (Manly Warringah Cycling Club) prevailed in the sprint to win his first state open road race in 2022.
Hartard, who began his ride with a handicap of 19 minutes from Scratch and 11 minutes from the front, finished with a time of 2 hours, 48 minutes and 59 seconds.
Fellow Bunch 5 starter Ross Bowles (Harlequin) was edged out ever so slightly in the sprint and crossed the line to take second, while Christopher Willis (Vikings Cycling Club) rounded out the podium after starting from Limit.
Illawarra's Rodney Latham came in at fourth in his hometown race and was one of five cyclists to finish in the top six having started from Bunch 5.
Orica Classic winner Ben Hill (Canberra Cycling Club) provided the fastest time on the day, clocking in at 2 hours, 20 minutes and 3 seconds from Scratch. The Canberran came in at 10th, finishing just over a minute behind Hartard.
History was made alongside the Dinnerville as the Barbara Wyles Handicap became the first-ever women-only state-level handicap to be run on the New South Wales calendar.
Like what the Dinnerville has been since 2019, this handicap was held over two out-and-back laps from Gunning to Breadalbane.
Hometown rider Lillee Pollock, who finished fourth in last year’s Dinnerville, clinched the win after a two-up sprint to the line between her and clubmate Angela Gates.
Both Illawarra riders came from Bunch 2 with a handicap of 10 minutes from Scratch and 10 minutes from Limit in a field consisting of three bunches.
Finishing in third with the fastest time of 2 hours and 51 minutes was Southern Cross cyclist Dayna Davidson who started from Scratch.
