Thinking of taking your cycling to the international stage?

Whether you’re a seasoned competitor or just starting to consider international races, here’s everything you need to know to help you determine what you need.

What is a UCI ID and UCI Licence?

A UCI ID is a unique ID that will remain with you throughout your cycling life. It allows you to take part (as a rider or official) in any cycling race that appears on the UCI calendar, including events in both Australia and overseas, except for UCI Gran Fondo qualifiers. This applies to:

  • Elite, U23 and Juniors (17 – 19 years old)
  • Para-cycling National Championships

Exceptions

  • In Australia, UCI Gran Fondo qualifiers are the only UCI events that do not need a UCI Licence or ID.

A UCI Licence is an identity document that confirms you can take part in UCI sanctioned events. It allows you to take part in top-tier events on the UCI calendar outside of Australia, including:

  • UCI World Tour & Pro Series (Road)
  • UCI World Championships (all disciplines)
  • UCI World Cup (all disciplines)
  • Enduro World Series (MTB)
  • UCI Nations Cup (Road & Track)

Do You Need a UCI Licence or a UCI ID?

If you’re taking part in a UCI event in Australia, the chances are you’ll only need a UCI ID. If you’re taking part in UCI events overseas (or a combination of domestic and international UCI events), you’ll need a UCI Licence as well.

If you’re applying for a UCI Licence, you’ll automatically be issued with a UCI ID. There is no need to make two separate applications.

Here’s a breakdown to help you understand what you need for UCI events taking place in Australia:
