Junior cross-country riders selected to compete for Australia at 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships

AusCycling has selected six riders to represent the Australian Cycling Team in the junior Cross-Country Olympic event at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in August.

The team to compete in Glasgow contains the current men’s and women’s junior XCO National Champion and Oceania Junior Men’s champion.

Jack Ward, the current national champion will attend his second World Championships and recently recorded a win at the OKK Bike Revolution Junior World Series race in Switzerland as part of the AusCycling MTB European Camp and finished 26 at the opening World Cup in Nove Mesto na Morave.

Oceania Junior men’s champion Cohen Jessen will also take on the might of the international riders on the mountain bike after also being selected for the junior road team to compete in Glasgow.

Levi Dougherty who finished sixth at the Championships in Thredbo round out the four-man squad.

Despite selection Eddie Willis and Ruby Dobson declined to compete, while Harry Doye is out through injury.

AusCycling Pathways Manager MTB & CX Evan James said it’s an exciting time for the junior riders.

“It’s very exciting to see this current cohort of junior XCO riders progressing and the recent performances on the Europe Camp showed Australia has riders capable of competing at the highest level.

“The XCO team joins a highly competitive DHI team for what should be a very successful World Championship campaign.”

The junior cross-country Olympic race will be held at Glentress in Scotland on 10th August.
