Ollie Davis and Elise Empey shine at Maydena downhill national series round
Feb 2, 2025
Ollie Davis and Elise Empey etched their names onto the Downhill National Series winners list for the first time at Maydena Bike Park in Tasmania.
The duo, who were last down the hill after qualifying fastest in seeding, were pinpoint in their race run on the dry loose Maydena course for Round 2 of the 2025 AusCycling National Downhill Series.
Current elite men’s national champion Luke Meier-Smith put down a heater of a run to be in the hot seat with a time of 2:42.61, and only Davis left at the top of the hill.
Luke Meier-Smith finished second in the elite men.
Davis, part of the Trek Factory Downhill team this season, snatched the top spot by a mere second to claim the win, with Connor Fearon in third a further 3 seconds back.

It was a small but quality field that lined up in the elite women.
Sacha Mills made her first foray into the elite ranks and stopped the clock at 3:21.91.
However, her time at the top was soon toppled by national champion Ellie Smith as she looked for her first win of the series.
But the duo had to settle for the minor placings as Elise Empey showcased why she has been signed by pro team Atherton Racing for the 2025 season and finished more than 9 seconds ahead of her rivals.

Despite her second place, Smith will move into the overall lead in the series ahead of the Canberra round in three weeks.
There was no splitting the top step in the Junior Men with Bailey Mills and Zach Ford both recording the exact same time to share the gold.
