AusCycling has announced five inductees to the AusCycling Hall of Fame: Olympic and world champion Anna Meares, coach Damien Grundy, dual-sport Olympian Donna Gould, early professional cycling pioneer Jackie Clark, and Paralympic champion Peter Homann.

The 2026 inductees represent a broad cross-section of Australian cycling history, from international competition and Olympic success to coaching, Para cycling and the development of the sport.

Anna Meares is one of Australia’s most successful track cyclists. She won six Olympic medals, including two gold – the first Australian to medal in individual events at four consecutive Games.

She also claimed 11 world championships before retiring from competition in 2016.

Meares served as Chef de Mission of the Australian Olympic Team for Paris 2024, a role in which she will continue for the 2028 Olympics. A true champion of our sport, Anna’s legacy reaches far beyond the podium.

Coach Damian Grundy played an important role in the development of Australian mountain biking. He coached Cadel Evans through the Australian Institute of Sport mountain bike program and served as its head coach through its six years of activity.

Grundy also coached national teams and supported international campaigns, contributing to the development of athletes across generations. He continues to support grassroots cycling through the Mansfield Mount Buller Cycling Club.

Donna Gould

Donna Gould was the first Australian woman to compete in back-to-back summer Olympics in different sports.

Gould, from McLaren Vale in South Australia, represented Australia in athletics at Los Angeles 1984 before switching to cycling. A former Australian record-holder over 3,000 and 5,000 metres, she joined the Australian Institute of Sport cycling program in 1987 and competed in the road race at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games.

She raced three editions of the women’s Tour de France from 1987–89, as well as competing at the 1990 Commonwealth Games and the 1988 women's Giro d'Italia, where she finished fifth and won the queen of the mountains jersey.

Jackie Clark

Born in Camperdown in 1884, Jackie Clark was a pioneer of Australian track cycling in the early 20th century.

Known as the “Kangaroo Rocket”, in 1909 he won the six-day race at Madison Square Garden in New York alongside Walter Rütt. He went on to record six such six-day victories between 1909 and 1913, including two wins in Berlin.

Clark achieved eight world records during his career. His success made him one of the first Australians to attain prominence in professional, international track cycling.

Peter Homann OAM

Peter Homann was a leading Australian Para cyclist, winning seven medals across three Paralympic Games: Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004.

He won two gold medals at his first international competition – the 1994 World Championships – and set world records in the 3,000-metre individual pursuit and kilometre time trial on his way to winning three world championships in 1998.

Homann also served as team captain and was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia. In 2008, he was inducted into the International Paralympic Committee Hall of Fame.

Marne Fechner, CEO of AusCycling, said: “The AusCycling Hall of Fame celebrates and preserves the history of our sport, recognising the best of the best in Australian cycling.

“Each of this year’s inductees have made an enduring and significant contribution to cycling, whether as an athlete, coach, administrator, leader or pioneer.

“We are extremely proud and delighted to recognise the extraordinary achievements of Anna Meares, Damian Grundy, Donna Gould, Jackie Clark and Peter Homann by adding their names to the Hall of Fame.”

The five inductees will be recognised as part of the 2026 AusCycling Hall of Fame and Awards, which will be held at the National Wine Centre in Adelaide on 2 December 2026.
