The AusCycling Advanced Coach course equips experienced coaches with the knowledge and tools to refine their approach, deepen their knowledge and confidently support athletes on the high-performance pathway.
This intensive program delivered once a year, delves into advanced training techniques, performance optimisation strategies and athlete management, empowering you to coach aspiring national and international competitors.
What you’ll develop
This course focuses on building well-rounded, capable performance coaches who can plan, deliver and review training in real-world environments.
Across the program, you will develop capability in:
- Elite Athlete Development Expertise: Learn to design and implement training programs for emerging elite and junior riders.
- Performance Optimisation Strategies: Gain in-depth knowledge of performance monitoring, assessment, and injury management.
- Advanced Sports Science: Master advanced nutrition, recovery techniques, and travel/training camp planning for elite athletes.
- Sports Psychology: Integrate sports psychology principles to enhance athletes' mental performance.
- Injury Management Strategies: Support with crisis management around injury.
- Refined Coaching Skills: Sharpen your coaching skills through practical assessments and presentations.
Course Structure:
The Advanced Coach course is delivered over 12 weeks, combining structured learning with applied assessment.
- Weekly 2-hour live online sessions (Tuesday evenings over 11 weeks)
- Designed to align with coaching and racing schedules
- Interactive sessions with discussion and applied tasks
- Ongoing assessment through:
- Weekly quizzes
- Workbook activities
- Session and season training plans
The course concludes with a:
- Final assessment day (Saturday), where coaches present a short research and applied coaching project to peers and an assessment panel

The Advanced Coach course is delivered once per year.

Tuesday Theory sessions:
- 14th, 21st, 28th July
- 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th August
- 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd September
Final Assessment Day:
- Saturday 3rd October (morning session)
What are the Benefits of Becoming an Advanced Coach?

Course Requirements:
This course is designed for experienced coaches already operating within the AusCycling pathway.
To apply, you must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Hold a current AusCycling Development Coach accreditation (minimum 12 months)
- Have experience coaching state-level athletes
You will also need to hold or complete the following:
- Current AusCycling membership (minimum Lifestyle)
- Working with Children Check (state/territory relevant)
- Provide First Aid certificate (HLTAID011 or equivalent)
- Sport Integrity Australia requirements:
- Anti-Doping Fundamentals and Annual Update
- Competition Manipulation and Sports Betting
- National Integrity Framework and Whereabouts
- Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport Induction
- Meet any additional discipline-specific requirements
