What's driving Roly Kyme ahead of Enduro National Championships?

Oct 2, 2024

After a fifth-place finish last year, Roly Kyme would like nothing more than to stand on the top step of the podium at the upcoming 2024 AusCycling Enduro National Championships.

For a very good reason.

“Once I found out that nationals were coming to Western Australia, I was pretty excited at the opportunity to capitalise on a home race and try to one up last year’s result,” he said.

The native West Australian admits he will have a slight advantage being the local with his team, Empire Cycles, family and friends on his side come race day.

Roly Kyme can't wait to race on his local trails at the Enduro National Championships

“It for sure motivates me to get the best outcome in the race having everyone who supports me around me come race day,” Kyme said.

When asked about what riders can expect at the Wellington Dam – Wambenger Trail Network, Kyme couldn’t hide his enthusiasm.

“There is a really good mix of terrain on offer so the race course should prove a good challenge for everyone,” he said

“The new trails at honeymoon pool would have to be a highlight and I can’t wait to race them for the first time.”

While defending champion Ryan Gilchrist will not be making the trip West, there will still be plenty of heavy-hitters lining up in the elite men category.

Under 21 Enduro World Series overall winner Bailey Christie, as well as third place finisher Sascha Kim and current downhill national champion Luke Meier-Smith will be in the thick of the action.

But for Kyme his focus will be on  what is within his control.

“In order for me to succeed I need to be in the right mindset. Whenever I’m happy and relaxed I tend to do the best.”
