Skill and stamina to test CX riders at Heffron Park
Jun 20, 2025

The AusCycling Cyclo-cross (CX) National Series rolls into Sydney this weekend as Heffron Park in Maroubra plays host to Rounds 3 and 4 of the 2025 competition.
Following a thrilling opening weekend in Geelong, Australia’s top cyclo-cross athletes now shift focus to one of the most unique double-header venues on the calendar.
Known for its undulating parkland and coastal winds, Heffron Park promises two contrasting tests of skill and stamina across the weekend.
Saturday’s racing will unfold over the “Fun n’ Flowy” course — a crowd-favourite layout that threads through grassed mounds, shrubbery, and sand pits, offering riders a dynamic, high-speed challenge.
It’s a rhythm-heavy circuit designed to reward finesse and fluid handling.
Sunday ups the ante with the “reverse Tough n’ Techy” layout, turning the course on its head.
Riders will be forced to recalibrate their lines and pacing, navigating technical pinches, soft sand traps, and off-camber sections that are as punishing as they are strategic.
Even seasoned CX veterans are expected to be tested to their limits.
The elite men’s field sees series leader Christopher Aitken aiming to defend his top spot, with rising talents like Campbell McConnell and Cameron Ivory eager to close the gap.
In the women’s competition, Miranda Griffiths and Isabella Flint resume their duel for series supremacy after strong performances in Geelong.
As the race for the overall title intensifies, every point counts — and with two distinct courses on tap, Heffron Park is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the series' standings ahead of the final rounds in Ballarat in August.
