ProVelo Super League: Sophie Marr takes overall prize, Anderson wins Q Tour

Mar 24, 2025

Sophie Marr (Praties Cycling Team) has won the inaugural ProVelo Super League while Alli Anderson (Butterfields Ziptrak Racing) took the GC win in the League’s final round, the Q Tour.

After six rounds, Marr was crowned the first winner of the PSL’s SBS Women’s League. As an under-23 rider, the Melbourne sprinter has also won a year’s contract with the Liv AlUla Jayco Continental women’s team for 2026.

Marr came into the Q Tour with a 73-point advantage over her teammate, Talia Appleton, but the hilly final stage was expected to favour the latter’s climbing talents.

Stage 1, a criterium under lights at Brisbane’s South Bank, finished in a bunch sprint with Odette Lynch (Butterfields Ziptrak Racing) taking victory.

Stage 2 was a short individual time trial where Lauren Bates (Meridian Blue p/b 99 Bikes) took the win and the overall lead, with Anderson only four seconds behind.

Stage 3 saw Marr sprint to a stage win at the Lakeside Raceway, while Bates retained her GC lead.

Stage 4’s Queen Stage was expected to be decisive, and it didn’t disappoint with an aggressive race finishing up the steep Campbell’s Pocket climb.

Appleton launched as the road ramped up, opening a gap and drilling it to the top for the stage win, collapsing with exhaustion just after the line.

Although Anderson couldn’t get back onto the wheel, she dug deep to finish in second place. With Bates dropped, Anderson took the overall win by just six crucial seconds ahead of Appleton, adding to her GC win at the Harbour City GP.

Back down the hill, Marr pushed her way up the steep slopes to minimise her losses. She finished sixth on the stage, enough to place fifth on GC and thereby defend her lead in the PSL by just 13 points over her teammate.
