MTB Academies in full flight

Oct 21, 2022

The nation’s up and coming mountain bike riders have been improving their skills with AusCycling MTB academies being held across the country the past few months.

A three-day camp at the Australian Institute of Sport in mid-July saw 48 athletes and 12 coaches take part. Participants from around New South Wales and the ACT were involved in riding sessions at Mt Stromlo, strength and conditioning, performance nutrition, warmups and recovery all led by trained AusCycling and AIS staff.

Strength exercises

Similar camps have been held in Victoria where 20 athletes attended a three-day camp recently led by AusCycling staff and accredited coaches including Adam Kelsall, while St Helens was the venue for the Tasmamian camp with Phil Leslie.

South Australia saw 14 riders along with coaches Anna Beck and Tyson Schmidt run through a variety of sessions which included education and training basics in Adelaide.

XC Riders

Western Australia riders had the opportunity to be part of a two-day camp in September involving Enduro World Series rider Jordan Prochyra at the Linga Longa venue.

While in Queensland Anna Beck hosts ongoing one day sessions that cover injury prevention facilitated by a physio as well as nutrition/cooking sessions.

A Queensland gravity camp will be to be held at Boomerang Farm and the Illnbah downhill track in November.
