EOI for MTB National Academy Camps now open

Jun 30, 2023

AusCycling is pleased to announce that the next round of Pathway opportunities for MTB will be two three night National Academy Camps to be held at the AIS in Canberra.

  • Camp 1 - Thursday 28th September to Sunday 1st October 2023
  • Camp 2 - Sunday 1st October to Wednesday 4th October 2023

The National Academy Camps have been chosen to align with all state and territory school holidays and is open to U17 & U19 athletes. The camps will once again be led by Evan James; Pathways Manager MTB & CX.

Following on from the formation of the 2022 state-based academies, the National camps aim to educate and inspire the next generation of athletes by bringing together peers of both coaches and athletes to support their performance development and assist riders and coaches to acquire the attributes to support them through the performance pathway.

The camp will include both on bike and off bike activities. Off bike activities will include Strength & Conditioning sessions with AIS HP Coaches, AusCycling Pathways presentations, Recovery information sessions, use of the AIS Recovery Centre, Optimising Training sessions, Sports Integrity Australia presentations and more.

Academy Overview

The AusCycling Development Academies (‘Academies’) have been formed as a component to the pre-performance rider development pathway.

The Academies seek to identify, develop, and support U15, U17 and targeted U19 riders, in their performance development and assist riders to acquire the attributes to support them through the performance pathways.

The specific purposes of the Academies include:

  • Providing targeted training sessions or camps
  • Enhancing and complimenting the primary daily training environment (DTE)
  • Developing consistent development opportunities across all States and Territories
  • Increasing the number of riders meeting key performance targets (where appropriate categorisation)
  • Providing cross discipline opportunities

The Academies seek to ensure a broad range of riders receive targeted support.

Who should apply for the camp?

· U17 & U19 athletes who attended any of the previous Pathway Academy camps held at the AIS in 2022.
