Downhill National Series arrives in Maydena for Round 2

Jan 31, 2025

Round two of the AusCycling Downhill National Series has made its way to Maydena in Tasmania.

After the mud-bath riders encountered in the opening round in Toowoomba, it is a dry and fast looking course that organisers have prepared for the two days of racing.

This year riders will race on the trails Pandani, Waratah, Supercross, Evergreen and Funky Cold Maydena in a bid for the top of the podium.

In the elite women current national champion Ellie Smith will be keen to notch her first win of the series after a second place in Queensland and the potential to take the overall lead with Jess Hoskins not racing.

However she will face up against Elise Empey who is a regular on the Maydena trails and a podium regular in Sian A'Hern.

For the elite men Josh Button will again take some beating as he looks to make it two wins on the trot in the downhill national series.

His big threat will come from the likes of Connor Fearon, Oliver Davis and William Ireland.

Australian junior champion Cooper Northey is just one of the names in a strong Under 19 field which includes Bailey Mills who is currently second in the overall rankings.
