Coach Education Extension Course - Para-Cycling

Sep 9, 2021

To coincide with the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, AusCycling has released the next coach education extension course: Para-cycling.

The focus of the course is to expand the participants knowledge in working with para-cyclists.

Developed in consultation with, and delivered by Australian Para-cycling athletes Carol Cooke and Stuart Tripp along with Australian Cycling Team and AusCycling Education staff, this course provides an exciting opportunity to actively increase coach knowledge in Para-cycling.

The course is aimed at fostering participants’ understanding of supporting riding for individuals with a disability and building toward coach competence in working with people who are seeking to become racing para-cyclists.

The course also provides a development opportunity for coaches who may be considering working within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Covering key areas such as aspects of athlete demographic, classification and various individual diagnoses, the course delivers strategies for successfully working with para-cycling athletes.

Course Delivery: via videoconference of approximately 5 ½ hours and includes theory, breakouts and team presentations.

Pre-Requisite(s): Current AusCycling Development Coaches and above (any disciplines) or Registered health professionals (with any level of AusCycling coaching or instructing qualification) may apply for admission to the course.

We are waiting to hear how Carol is going after her unfortunate crash during her Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Road Race and wish her well with a speedy recovery.
