AusCycling congratulates Caleb Ewan on his retirement
May 7, 2025

AusCycling has joined the Australian cycling community in paying tribute to Caleb Ewan upon his retirement from professional cycling.
Ewan announced his retirement, effective immediately, in a social media post yesterday.
“This sport has been a major part of my life, shaping my path and offering experiences I’ll carry with me forever,” wrote the 30-year-old from New South Wales.
“Over the course of my 11-year career, I’ve accomplished more than I ever imagined possible. From personal milestones to professional achievements, the journey has exceeded every expectation I once had, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunities, challenges and growth that have shaped my life.”
Ewan turned professional in 2014 with the Orica GreenEDGE team. He went on to become one of the world’s foremost road sprinters, winning five stages of the Tour de France.

He represented Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and at two elite World Championships.
“To my country – wearing the green and gold has been one of the greatest honours of my career,” Ewan wrote. “Representing Australia has always meant something special to me. No matter where I was racing in the world, I felt the support from back home. That encouragement, from fans, family, and everyone who followed my journey, has meant more than I can put into words.”
Born to a Korean mother and Australian father, Ewan grew up in the Southern Highlands. He was a prolific racer in his formative years, winning the junior omnium world championship in 2011.
Noted for his aggressive sprinting possession, crouched low over his handlebars, Ewan won four elite Australian criterium championships – including three in a row from 2016 to 2018. He came close to becoming the national road champion when he took the runner-up spot in 2015.
In addition to his 11 grand tour stage victories, Ewan won nine stages of the Tour Down Under, plus one-day races such as Scheldeprijs.

In 2019, he was awarded the Sir Hubert Opperman Medal (the ‘Oppy’) as the Australian Cyclist of the Year.
Marne Fechner, Chief Executive Officer of AusCycling said, “Caleb has thrilled and inspired a generation of Australian road cyclists with his breathtaking speed and exhilarating style.
“We have been honoured for Caleb to represent Australia at World Championships, Commonwealth Games, and as a four-time criterium national champion, not to mention what he has achieved in grand tours and the classics.
“On behalf of AusCycling and the entire Australian cycling community, we congratulate Caleb on a successful career.”
