AusCycling is delighted to announce that Brisbane has secured multiple headline international cycling events for 2028, further establishing the city as a premier destination for global competition, major events and active lifestyles.
The Queensland capital will welcome the world’s best track cyclists and BMX racing athletes when it hosts a round of the UCI Track World Cup and two rounds of the UCI BMX Racing World Cup in February 2028.
The track competition will be staged at the world-class Anna Meares Velodrome, while the Brisbane SX International BMX Centre next door will host elite international athletes and fans for two rounds of top-level BMX racing.

The expanded cycling schedule is a major coup for AusCycling as it gets set to host the 2026 UCI BMX Racing World Championships in Brisbane this July.
Together, the events are expected to attract the world’s top Olympic hopefuls as they prepare for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics, positioning Brisbane and Queensland as a critical stop on the international cycling calendar during a key Olympic qualification period.
AusCycling Chief Executive Officer, Marne Fechner, said she was thrilled that Australia continues to secure world-class events.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Brisbane and Australia to the world,” Ms Fechner said. “With the best riders descending on these shores more regularly as we build towards the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, it’s great for our elite riders, but also our emerging stars and of course our fans, who get the chance to watch the world’s best riders compete up close.”

Saturday's announcement builds on the awarding of the prestigious UCI Bike City label to Brisbane, recognising the city's long-term investment in cycling infrastructure, community participation and international event delivery.
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said securing these events was another major win for the city’s momentum as a global cycling destination. “Securing multiple UCI World Cup cycling events is a significant achievement that supports Brisbane’s growing reputation as Australia’s lifestyle capital,” Cr Schrinner said.
“As one of only two Australian UCI Bike Cities, Brisbane is attracting world-class competition that enhances our lifestyle and delivers major events, bringing visitors, energy and economic benefits to our city as we build towards Brisbane 2032.”
The announcement further strengthens Brisbane’s credentials ahead of the 2032 Summer Olympics, showcasing the city’s readiness to host world-class sport while delivering lasting community benefits through participation and active transport.

Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell said the announcement accelerated Queensland’s Destination 2045 ambition to secure world-leading events that drive sustainable tourism and deliver a lasting legacy.
“These events are about more than competition; they help cement Queensland as Australia’s premier events capital,” Minister Powell said. “They draw visitors, amplify our global profile, and deliver real economic and community benefits – that’s how we stay ahead of the pack.
“Showcasing elite cycling as we build momentum towards the 2032 Games proves Queensland can deliver exceptional, inclusive experiences on the global stage.”
Hosting multiple Cup rounds in a single month is expected to deliver strong economic impact, international broadcast exposure and tourism opportunities while inspiring local riders and fans.

The events will be delivered in partnership with AusCycling, supporting athlete development and strengthening Australia’s position within international cycling.
The announcement also reinforces the growing impact of the Brisbane Cycling Festival, which continues to unite elite sport, community participation and industry innovation through more than 60 events across the city.
Later this year, Brisbane will again take centre stage when the world’s fastest BMX racers arrive for the UCI BMX Racing World Championships in July — another major milestone on the city’s journey toward 2032 with tickets selling incredibly fast.
South East Queensland will become the focus of the cycling world in 2028, with the Sunshine Coast already announced as the host of the 2028 UCI Para Cycling Road World Championships.
Today's announcement follows AusCycling's delivery of a round of the 2026 UCI Track World Cup in Perth last month.
