Big fields await Continential Downhill Series at Mt Stromlo
Feb 27, 2025

The third round of the 2025 AusCycling Downhill National Series is set to take place this weekend at Mt Stromlo in Canberra, with the event also forming part of the prestigious UCI Continental Series.
Riders from across the country and overseas are gearing up for what promises to be a thrilling weekend on one of Australia’s most renowned downhill tracks.
The elite men’s field is stacked with talent, headlined by current series leader Josh Button and reigning national champion Luke Meier-Smith.
Button, who finished fourth in the previous round at Maydena, holds a 50-plus point lead over the ever-consistent Will Ireland who is always a podium threat.
The race will also feature a strong contingent of Canberra locals, including Kye A’Hern, Jackson Frew, and Tim Eaton, all of whom will be looking to capitalise on their home-track advantage.
In the women’s field, the absence of overall series leader and national champion Ellie Smith opens the door for other contenders to make their mark.
Canberra’s own Sian A’Hern is among the favourites, with her deep knowledge of the Mt Stromlo track expected to play a significant role in her performance.
Many of the riders competing this weekend have just come off the Cannonball Festival, ensuring they are in peak form and race-ready.
Meanwhile, the junior men’s category has drawn a particularly large and competitive field, setting the stage for an intense battle among the rising stars of Australian downhill racing.
Fifty-two riders will drop in for seeding on Sunday including current national series leader Bailey Mills.
