Next year, AusCycling is bringing national mountain bike events across the breadth of the country.
Unveiled today, the 2027 AusCycling National Mountain Bike Calendar will feature racing from the Western Australian coast to the tropical northeast, with its pinnacle event set to be held in Tasmania.
Glenorchy to host MTB National Championships

Headlining the announcement is the 2027 AusCycling MTB National Championships, which will be held on the world-class trails of Glenorchy, Tasmania: one of Australia’s highest-quality competition venues and more than worthy of crowning the national champions. From March 17−21, Australia’s best riders will compete for the coveted green-and-gold jersey in downhill, cross-country Olympic, short track and team relay disciplines.
Steve Peterson, AusCycling’s Executive General Manager of Major Events, said: “With the support of Events Tasmania, we are thrilled to be bringing a number of AusCycling events down south in 2027, starting with our highest-profile mountain bike event of the year”.
National Series to span the country

The MTB National Championships will be the crown jewel in an exciting domestic summer of racing. Mountain bikers of all age categories can challenge and test themselves across the AusCycling MTB National Series, which runs from February to April.
The AusCycling Downhill National Series will begin at Mt Buller. It’ll make stops at Kooralbyn Valley (hosted by Kooralbyn Valley MTB Club) and Awaba (hosted by Hunter Valley MTBA), before the series finale brings DH racing west to Nannup, hosted by Peel Districts MTB Club.
The AusCycling XCO National Series will feature three double-headers of cross-country action. It begins in the suburbs of Melbourne with the opening rounds hosted by Lysterfield District Trail Riders MTB Club. Rounds 3 and 4 will run alongside the AusCycling Observed Trials National Championships at Mt Stromlo, hosted by Canberra Off Road Cyclists. Ipswich Offroad Cyclists will then host the final two rounds at Hidden Valley Adventure Park in Grandchester, QLD.
AusCycling’s Head of Events – MTB, Lukas Matys, said: “The AusCycling MTB National Series continues to go from strength to strength. We’ve been pleased to see the interest in hosting rounds of the series has been strong leading into the launch of the 2027 calendar.
“In 2026, we had riders participating in our National Series that went on to secure world championship titles. We want to continue to build on that incredible momentum in 2027.
“We thank all our clubs and event organisers for their commitment to the series, and we look forward to the biggest one yet.”
Cairns Rainforest Rumble renewed to 2028
Also announced today is the return of the Cairns Rainforest Rumble for 2027 and 2028, now taking place later in the season. The new event, which debuted this year at Smithfield MTB Park, will also feature the AusCycling Pump Track National Championships alongside world-class downhill and cross-country racing.
“Smithfield Mountain Bike Park offers some of the most technical, world-class mountain bike terrain in the country, and that's why AusCycling is proud to lock in the next two years of the Cairns Rainforest Rumble,” Peterson said.
“AusCycling’s ambition is to keep raising the standard of competition in Australia, building Smithfield into a home for world-class racing, and positioning Cairns as Asia-Pacific's leading mountain bike venue.
"We thank the Queensland Government, Cairns Regional Council and Tourism Tropical North Queensland for their continued partnership in backing that ambition."
EDR National Championships head to Derby

In November, the Apple Isle will welcome another major event, the 2027 AusCycling Enduro National Championships. The event will bring gravity riders to the renowned Blue Derby Mountain Bike Trails, the same world-class venue that held a round of the UCI Enduro World Cup in 2023.
Doug Miller of Tas Gravity Enduro, which will deliver the event alongside AusCycling, said: “We’re absolutely stoked to be bringing the EDR National Championships to Derby – home of some of the world’s most iconic mountain bike trails and the unmistakable charm of Blue Derby.
“The Tas Gravity community is gearing up to deliver an epic festival of enduro, bringing riders, families and the wider MTB community together for a weekend of racing, riding and good times.”
Warburton to welcome XCM National Championships
Finally, in December, the AusCycling Marathon National Championships will head to the new World Trail-built Warburton MTB Park in Victoria, hosted by Big Hill Events.
Set among the towering trees and ferns of the Yarra Ranges, Warburton’s dynamic course – which will be almost 95% singletrack – will offer challenging climbs, flow, and technical descending that will test technical skills, race strategy and stamina across the XCM distance.
Rohin Adams, director of Big Hill Events, said: “It’s been exciting seeing the Warburton MTB Park evolve over the last two years, with each trail and stage opening presenting a new course opportunity. New trails not yet opened are going to see more XC tech come into play and we are super excited to be hosting in this amazing location.”
AusCycling will reveal its state and territory event calendar in October, bringing mountain bike events to even more locations around Australia.
Dates and venues for the Oceania Continental Series are expected to be announced shortly by the Oceania Cycling Confederation.
