Muddy Start To European XC Camp

The 10 Australian riders taking part in the AusCycling European Cross-Country camp were given their first taste of Euro conditions at Bike the Rock, Heubach, Germany.

It was the first of four races the team will compete at, culminating in the Nove Mesto round of the World Cup on 14 May.

Six riders lined up in the junior men race in sloppy and wet conditions with Jack Ward finishing inside the top 20.

Cohen Jessen, Riley Cork, Owen Fletcher, Joel Dodds and Ethan Weiss also put the Australian team colours on display.

Holly Lubcke would be the sole Aussie female in the Elite Women and produce a 16th place finish after 5 laps in the German mud, while Hayley Oakes in her first European race was a solid 20th in junior women.

In the Under 23 Men, Tom Cheeseman was 17th and Isacc Fletcher 32nd.

Meanwhile in Switzerland Zoe Cuthbert and Katherine Hosking would finish inside the top 20 at the ÖKK Bike Revolution in Chur in a field including World Cup heavy hitters Sina Frei, Anne Terpstra and Alessandra Keller the eventual winner in elite women.

Dominic Paolilli who along with Hosking is part of the UCI/WCC Team would produce a solid result in 24th behind former U23 World Champion Frenchman Jordan Sarrou.
