Esports racing returns this winter with National Championships on the line
As the evenings get darker and the winter cold sets in, AusCycling is keeping the competitive wheels turning with the return of its cycling esports series.
The AusCycling Club Esports Series pits cycling clubs against each other in the quest to be Australia’s number one.
Starting on June 9, the AusCycling Club Esports Series will run on Tuesday nights for six consecutive weeks.
Participants of all abilities will ride from the convenience of their homes, doing their best in their category to contribute to their club’s points tally.
The Club Series will be immediately followed by the AusCycling Masters Esports National Championships on Tuesday, July 21, where national titles will be awarded to individuals in each age category.
In order to be eligible to race the National Championships, riders will need to complete at least two rounds of the Club Series.
There’s an extra sweetener thanks to event partners JetBlack: two lucky participants in the Masters National Championships – one man and one woman – will win a JetBlack smart trainer.
All seven events will take place on MyWhoosh.
How to join the AusCycling National Club Esports Series
Register your club in the Esports Series
- Sign in to MyWhoosh
- Go to AusCycling | MyWhooshInfo > Select ‘Join Club’

- Select ‘New Team’

- Add new team and save

- For each cycling club, please ensure there is only one ‘team’ ie. Do not create a team for Norwood Cycling Club A-Grade, Norwood Cycling Club B-Grade, simply just ‘Norwood Cycling Club’.
- When riders enter the event, their results will automatically assign them to the grade they are meant to be racing in, and position in the relevant grade.
- All results will be segmented into categories by grade and gender.
- Points leaderboards for individuals and teams will be tracked via mywhooshinfo.com.
Steps to join an event in the series
- Complete the event registration process on the MyWhoosh website.
- If you have received a confirmation email, launch the MyWhoosh app and log in.
- Connect your smart trainer and other devices and tap ‘Let’s Go’.
- A pre-race menu will be displayed on your screen. On the left, you will see the ‘Upcoming Events’ section listing future events.
- Once your participation is confirmed, the ‘Participate’ button will appear at the bottom-left corner of the pre-race menu 90 minutes before the event and will remain visible until the event begins.
- You will have the option to auto-select the ‘Participate’ button before an event starts, or it will automatically take you to the event 30 seconds before it begins.
Note:
- This series is open to AusCycling affiliated clubs only.
- Riders must be aged 17+ to be eligible to score points for their club.
- All events in the Series will be conducted in accordance with the AusCycling General and Esport Technical Regulations.
Categories
- There are six categories (including para-cyclist), based on power/weight, with positions awarded in results.
- Men and Women’s races will be conducted concurrently.
- Each rider is automatically categorized into a category based on their best 20-minute W/kg effort from the last 3 months (or that weeks race). This number is then multiplied by 0.95 and used to calculate the rank.
- The ranks are:
- Pro Elite - Your category is Pro Elite. This means your FTP (Functional Threshold Power) is 5.0 w/kg or higher.
- Pro - Your category is Pro. This means your FTP is between 4.3 – 4.9 w/kg.
- Neo pro - Your category is Neo Pro. This means your FTP is between 3.7 – 4.2 w/kg.
- Expert - Your category is Expert. This means your FTP is between 3.0 – 3.6 w/kg.
- Sport - Your category is Sport. This means your FTP is up to 2.9 w/kg.
- Para-Cyclist – please reach out to [email protected] to ensure you are placed in the correct category.
You will upgrade into a higher category automatically if you ride/race above the next category threshold. The only way down is to wait 3 months before your previous effort has expired.
Pre-Race Verification
- Please ensure your weight is correct in-game prior to entering the race pen in MyWhoosh.
i. Random weigh-in checks via email from MyWhoosh will take place after every round, with weights more than 2% in discrepancy resulting in a disqualification. - Submitting a weigh-in and height video prior to each event is not required.
- A pre-event power profile test is also not required.

How Points Races are scored
In Points Race stages, riders earn intermediate points at designated segments (e.g. sprints, KOMs, or checkpoints). At the end of the race, each rider's segment points are added together and riders are ranked by their total. This segment ranking is then converted into the standard race points table (110 for 1st, 105 for 2nd, 100 for 3rd, etc.) - exactly the same as a Scratch Race or Time Trial.
This ensures that every stage is worth the same amount in the overall league standings, regardless of race format. The segment points themselves are only used to determine the order within that race - they don't carry over directly into the league table.
Team League point system
The Cycling Esports League rewards both individual performance and team strategy. Each race contributes to the overall league standings through a transparent, consistent scoring model that combines race results, segment performance, and team collaboration.
- Riders earn points in every race.
- The top 3 scoring riders from each team contribute to that team’s total race score.
- Team race scores are then converted into League Points based on finishing order.
- Bonus League Points may be awarded at selected checkpoints in certain events to encourage tactical and aggressive racing.
- This ensures every rider’s effort counts — sprinters, climbers, and all-rounders all influence their team’s success.
