Vale Maddy Marshall (1995–2022)

Australian representative Madeline Marshall has died at the age of 26, four-and-a-half years after being diagnosed with blood cancer.

Maddy, as she was known to friends and family, was a competitive junior cyclist from Canberra.

In 2013, she won a bronze medal in the Junior Women’s Oceania Road Race Championship. Later that year, she competed for Australia in the junior women’s road race at the UCI Road World Championships in Florence, Italy.

In 2017, Maddy was diagnosed with leukaemia and underwent chemotherapy.

She passed away on Friday surrounded by loved ones, who have described her as an “inspiration”, a “wonderful friend” and a “fun and beautiful soul”.

Maddy’s parents Adrian and Robyn Marshall have asked supporters to honour her memory by donating to the Leukaemia Foundation.
