Try para-sports: Start your own sporting journey this October

Sep 26, 2024

With the Paris Paralympic Games still fresh in our minds, Australians are being invited to test out a range of para-sports.

This October, Disability Sports Australia and Paralympics Australia will host a series of 'Try Para-Sports' events across the country. These free events will offer Australians with disability an introduction to para-sports.

At each event, people with disabilities will:

  • Try a range of para-sports
  • Learn more about local para-sport opportunities
  • Make new friends
  • Meet and greet Paralympians
  • Have fun!

The events will provide a positive, inclusive and safe space to be active and to start your para-sport journey – perhaps in para-cycling!

Australia’s para-cyclists recently completed a successful campaign in Paris, finishing fifth on the cycling medal tally with four gold, four silver and three bronze medals. Among the medallists were Lauren Parker, who carried the national flag at the closing ceremony, and Jessica Gallagher and Caitlin Ward (pictured above), who won a silver medal on the track.

'Try Para-sports' is open to people aged 10 years and above with a disability.

For those looking to learn about classification, classifiers will be available.

You can register for an event in your capital city by visiting the Disability Sports Australia event page.
