2022 will see the 124th running of the Austral Wheelrace, the world's oldest and still existing track cycling event, which began on the hallowed turf of the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 1887.

The Wheelrace, contested over six to eight laps or 1500-2000m, is held as a handicap, meaning riders are assigned different start locations according to their racing ability on the 250m velodrome track.

The more highly favoured riders will begin from 'scratch' or the start line, with some riders afforded a head start of up to 250m. The handicapper's goal is to have all riders finish the race simultaneously.

The AusCycling 2022 Madison National Championships will see the nation's best back on track vying for the green and gold national champion's jersey.

The Madison, one of only six track cycling disciplines on the Olympic Games program, features two-riders teams looking to secure points throughout the race, including exciting changeovers between the pairings completed by a hand-sling.

Maeve Plouffe, Sophie Edwards, Alexandra Martin-Wallace, Conor Leahy, Josh Duffy and Graeme Frislie are confirmed starters, with the final list of Madison pairings to be announced closer to the event.
