Stage is set for the Downhill National Series opener in Toowoomba

With the Downhill National Series season opener this weekend, all eyes are on Toowoomba.

Will the veterans hold their ground, or will a new generation of riders seize the spotlight?

The stage is set for the opening downhill round of the 2025 AusCycling Mountain Bike National Series on January 11th and 12th at the renowned Jubilee Park Mountain Bike Trails in Toowoomba, Queensland.

Jubilee Park’s downhill track is no stranger to the spotlight, boasting a blend of raw, rugged terrain and purpose-built features that challenge every aspect of a rider's skill set.

This year’s course promises a high-octane ride, with steep chutes, gnarly rock gardens, and towering drops that will have riders pushing the limits of their speed and control.

The start list includes elite and under 19 national champions Ellie Smith and Cooper Northey, who will be wearing the iconic green and gold sleeve.

Local rider Elle de Noyer, acing in the elite women’s ranks will have the chance to showcase her talent in front of her home crowd and will be a heavy favourite for a podium position.

Fellow Queenslander Sacha Mills (Scott DH Factory) will also be a threat for a medal on Saturday.

The weekend will also see a cameo from former World Cup downhill competitor Dean Lucas who retired from elite level racing in 2023.

The elite men’s list features the likes of World Cup riders Jackson Connelly, Will Ireland, Lewis Albo as well as former series winner Josh Button.

One thing’s for sure: the 2025 AusCycling Mountain Bike National Series is off to a roaring start, and Jubilee Park is ready to deliver a downhill showdown for the ages.

For spectators, Jubilee Park offers fantastic vantage points to catch all the action, with the finish line area set to host a festival-like atmosphere.

As the series opener, the event is anticipated to attract Australia's top downhill talent. While the official rider list has not been released, the national series typically features elite competitors from across the country.
