Scottish silver secured for Troy Brosnan at World Cup Downhill opener

May 6, 2024

Troy Brosnan (Canyon CLLCTV Factory Team) has opened his UCI Downhill World Cup season in style at Fort William, Scotland.

After setting the fastest semi-final time the multiple Australian champion would be last down the hill in Sunday’s final.

But when Loïc Bruni (Specialized Factory Racing) put down a heater to claim the hot seat with only Brosnan to come.

The South Australian and 2014 Fort William UCI World Cup winner could only get within 1.8 seconds to finish in second place.

Troy Brosnan finished second in the elite men at Fort William

“Ten years ago, I won here in 2014. Coming back from a very up-and-down season last year I wanted to go strong.

“Second place for me today feels like a win. I’m in a better head space and the bike is really working underneath me,” he said.

Fellow Australian’s Remy Meier-Smih (Giant Factory Off-Road Team) and Kye A’Hern (Kenda NS Bikes URteam), Connor Fearon (Forbidden Synthesis Team) and Luke Meier-Smith (Giant Factory Off-Road Team) also made the final.

In the elite women Sian A’Hern (YT Mob) finished 14th in the semi-finals but would miss a place in the 11-woman final.

While Sacha Mills (Scott Downhill Factory) made a solid return from injury to finish sixth in the junior women.
