Samual Grace notches another BMX Freestyle World Cup top-10 result

Oct 23, 2024

Rising Australian BMX Freestyle talent Samual Grace has proven his credentials on the world stage, notching his second top-10 result at a world cup for the year.

Grace, 21, finished 8th overall at the UCI BMX Freestyle World Cup in Shanghai, adding to his 8th place at the World Cup in Montpellier, France earlier in the year.

With practice and qualification days affected by wind and rain, riders would get the chance to put down two runs, with the best score counting as their final result.

Grace produced a solid first run laying down a 720 double bar spin, 1080 and flair downside tail-whip, with judges scoring the Victorian 78.40 to put him into fourth place.

Unable to better his score on his second run, a 77.70, Grace was eventually pushed down the standings to finish in 8th.

It was a positive result for the Australian national champion, confirming he has what it takes to mix it with the best in the world.

“I’m not entirely happy with my results as I missed a big trick in both the runs because of a small mistake at the start, it was so close to the exact run I wanted but not quite. But it’s still another top-10 so makes me feel I belong with these top riders,” Grace said.

Fellow Australian riders Xavier Gilbee, 18, finished 21st, while in the elite women Mylee Toohey, 16, was unable to progress to the finals finishing 16th in qualification.
