Behind every jump, roller, and flowing trail at First Turkey Mountain Bike Reserve is a team of dedicated volunteers from the Rockhampton Mountain Bike Club.
Over the past year, their work has kept the network in top shape for the community.
There are 200 members of the central Queensland club, but it’s roughly 20 volunteers who regularly turn up to maintain, repair, and upgrade sections of the network.

Riders enjoy one of the many trails at the First Turkey MTB Reserve.
Their efforts have delivered major projects including the full rebuild of the Dirt Clowns jump line, the restoration of the Megatron flow trail, and the transformation of Whipsnake into a flowing green trail ahead of the 2026 AusCycling State MTB Enduro Championships in July.
Covering approximately 40 km of trail across 150 hectares, First Turkey attracts thousands of riders each year, and it’s the quiet, consistent work of volunteers that keeps it safe, fun, and sustainable.

The club holds trail-building days monthly to help repair the network.
"There are a couple of individuals who consistently go above and beyond. Their commitment is the backbone of the trail network," said club member Rolley Tickner.
The club has developed a master plan endorsed by council that outlines a long-term vision for First Turkey with the goal to improve infrastructure and upgrade sections of trail as well as upgrade facilities that could elevate the network to state and national significance.
