Red Centre BMX ready to roar into action for BMX National Rounds

Jul 21, 2022

The first national rounds in the Northern Territory for three years will take place at the freshly renovated Red Centre BMX, with the upcoming rounds the final chance for riders to capture national points before the last round in Launceston, followed by the 2022 AusCycling BMX National Championships.

Over 250 competitors will pedal along the stunning new surface at the Alice Springs club, with the club's infrastructure and track facilities improving thanks to a Community Benefit Fund grant that brings the track in line with national competition requirements and standards.

"It’s great for the club," said Brad Bellette, Red Centre BMX President.

"Being so remote, we don’t often get opportunities like this, so we are honoured to have been selected to host two rounds of the national series and inspire our riders to aim for the national stage. Everyone has been training hard and looking forward to testing themselves against different riders."

Rounds four and five present an excellent opportunity for local riders and all Northern Territory riders from the Nhulunbuy, Darwin, Katherine and Palmerston BMX clubs to gain valuable National Cup points as we approach the end of the season.

"One of the best things about bringing this high-level BMX action to Alice Springs will be having the grandstands full of locals cheering us on," Bellette said.

"We’re an active community, and it's a fantastic opportunity to support other Central Australians competing at a national level, plus the interstate competitors.

"We have a lot of parents who ride with their kids, which makes race meets all the more fun. We are a spread-out bunch, but get together as much as possible as we’re not afraid to travel up the track for an event."

National Round five will be a Mighty 11s Test Team Qualifier ahead of the second test in New Zealand, riders wishing to compete in this qualifier must fill out a separate form here.
