Record numbers of riders ready to descend on Sydney BMX Club

May 19, 2021

The two opening rounds of the 2021 AusCycling BMX National Cup will see more than 700 riders each day, some from as far afield as Bunbury BMX Club in Western Australia, make their way to Sydney Olympic Park.

Former elite national champions Brandon Te Hiko, Alex Cameron, Corey Frieswyk will go head to head with reigning junior elite national champion Matthew Tidswell and young guns Thomas Tucker and Oli Moran in a stacked Men's Superclass field.

Sydney BMX club is hosting its first national round since the start of the 2019 season. Hayden Fletcher of Shepparton BMX club and Brandon Te Hiko of Geelong BMX were successful two years ago, a feat they will be hoping to replicate this weekend.

In the Women's Superclass field, former elite national champion Erin Lockwood will take on current AusCycling National Cup leader Sienna Pal. Lilyanne Croft is just behind Pal after taking out two of the Western Australia state series rounds thus far, Croft making the long journey from Perth for the two national rounds.

Alongside the Superclass riders, over 50 Sprockets will push their way along the track and for a lot of them, this will be their first ride in a national round.

It’s set to be a fantastic weekend of entertainment with lots going on and off the track with a handful of food stalls alongside several Pro Shops. Sydney BMX club will also be raising money for a wonderful cause, the Stevens family, who sadly lost their son and brother, Ethan to a rare form of blood cancer. A gold coin donation will be encouraged as you enter the car park and at the canteen.

The first round begins on Saturday 22 May at Sydney BMX Club.

Practice starts at 8:00 am, and racing begins at 10:00 am, with finals beginning later in the afternoon. Check out the full schedule below.
