AusCycling is excited to announce the appointment of Michael Hannah in the newly created role of Development Academy Manager – Downhill and Enduro Mountain Bike.

Hannah's appointment marks a key step in strengthening the national pathway for gravity disciplines, a concrete response to feedback AusCycling received through Project Ascent.

As one of Australia's most accomplished downhillers, Hannah brings extensive competitive experience. His racing career including two UCI World Championship silver medals, a UCI World Cup victory, 17 World Cup podiums and four elite national titles.

Adding to his impressive resume were two E-Enduro World Cup podiums, underlining his presence across evolving gravity formats.

Hannah was inducted into the AusCycling Hall of Fame in 2020 in recognition of his contribution to the sport.

In the role, Hannah will lead the delivery of Development Academy programs for downhill and enduro, supporting emerging athletes and coaches while contributing to a more connected national pathway.

Hannah said he was looking forward to supporting the next generation of athletes.

“This is a great opportunity to help build strong foundations for young gravity riders,” Hannah said.

“I’m excited to work with athletes and coaches across the country to support their development and help grow the depth of downhill and enduro in Australia."

AusCycling CEO Marne Fechner said Hannah’s appointment would further strengthen the organisation’s commitment to gravity disciplines.

“Michael brings experience from the highest level of the sport, along with a strong understanding of athlete development," Fechner said.

“His appointment is an important step in building a more aligned and sustainable pathway for downhill and enduro riders across Australia.”

The Development Academy programs form part of AusCycling’s broader pathway framework, supporting the identification and development of promising young athletes.
