Masters marathon world champions crowned in the West

Nine Australians have walked away with rainbow jerseys after the 2023 UCI Masters Marathon World Championships.

Competitors from across the world converged on the Peel region of West Australia for a massive weekend of distance mountain biking which saw riders aged 40+ chase a World Championship title.

The titles would be crowned in the 100km and 60km distances.

Adrian Jackson and Rhianna Farrell would stand top of the podium in the 100km 40-44 age category.

In the 60km race seven Australians would stand top of the box.

In the women Meaghan Stanton (45-49), Lisa Dodds (50-54), Alison Dyson (55-59), Sharon Heap (60-54) and Beverly Anderson (65-69) all claimed gold in their race.

While Colin Locke (55-59) and Alan Goodchild (80+) would win in their male categories.

Goodchild was also recognised for being the oldest competitor at the event.

The Masters Marathon event is relatively new to the UCI schedule, held in Italy for the first time in 2021 and 2022.

As part of the Dwellingup 100 the Oceania Marathon Championships were held with Daniel McConnell and Samara Sheppard taking out the elite titles across the 100km distance.
