Rebecca Locke and Tristan Nash bag back to back wins in National Cyclo-cross Series

May 22, 2023

Rebecca Locke and Tristan Nash made it a perfect weekend with wins at the opening two rounds of the 2023 AusCycling Cyclo-cross National Series in Perth.

It was the first time in nine years that a national series has been held in the West Australian capital and 170 riders took on the Garvey Park circuit across the two days.

Locke, the current national champion was a cut above in the elite women as she wrapped up the top step with impressive performances.

She would take the opening round by more than a minute to Fiona Morris and Zoe Davison on the Saturday.

It would be a rinse and repeat effort from Locke the next day as she again negotiated the course this time in reverse.

Morris and Davison were left to battle out the minor placings.

In the elite men the local knowledge paid off for Nash as he put his mark on the race from the whistle.

The West Australian would stay out in front for the entire race and crossed nearly two minutes ahead of National Series regulars Chris Aitken and Garry Millburn.

Sunday's performance was another show-stopper with Nash taking control of the six lap race.

The Perth native ensured he would be a force to be reckoned with in his first year racing in the elite category.

Millburn would turn the tables on Aitken to grab the silver in Round 2.

The next round of the National Series will be in Adelaide 3-4 June 2023.
