#IWD2022 Celebrating International Women's Day
Mar 8, 2022
#IWD2022 International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the achievements of women and encourages unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy.
In 2022, #BreakTheBias asks everyone to ensure a diverse and inclusive gender-equal world free of bias and discrimination.
AusCycling is proud to celebrate #InternationalWomensDay by acknowledging the achievements of some of the many women in cycling who are breaking the bias across Australia!
Louise Jones – International Track & Road Commissaire, National Commissaire Cyclo-cross
“As a former rider and a female, it helped my rise through the commissaire ranks, although I like to think I deserved the opportunities that have come my way! What better way to be involved in top class sport and travel at the same time.”
Lynne Munro - Interim National Sprint Coach, Australian Cycling Team.
“We all have a unique gift, something exceptional that distinguishes our role in the world. To coach, to help someone realise their super-power is like setting off a domino effect, unlocking individuals, a squad, a team.”
Terri McKinnon – President Park Orchards BMX Club (Melbourne)
“It’s great to be able to give back to a sport that my child loves. There are so many women and girls now coming through BMX and it’s gaining traction as an Olympic sport which is wonderful to see.”
Leanna Curtis – BMX Development Coach, Australian Cycling Team.
"When you help a rider achieve something they've been working towards, it makes you super excited and happy. It's really the best feeling.”
Tracey Vince - International BMX Commissaire
If you love a challenge, love your sport, and maybe if you'd love to hold the unofficial title of being the first woman to Commissaire something, then give it a go!
Ceran Nilsen – Creator, Enpoint CCN Women’s Cycling Brisbane
“I am a great believer in creating opportunities for women to become empowered. I feel I am making a difference in women’s lives for the better, one ride, one coffee, and one day at a time.”
Joanne Cameron - National Track, Cyclo-cross & Road Commissaire
“Being a commissaire was a way for me to continue to work in the sport that I love, learning from like-minded people and making new friendships.”
Donna Rae‑Szalinski OAM - Interim Director of Performance Pathways, Australian Cycling Team.
“The best thing about being a coach is the journey with your athlete/team. It is a privilege to be entrusted with that journey and it inspires me every day.”
Susan Mitchell – National MTB, Track, Cyclo Cross & Road Commissaire
“Being a commissaire is rewarding and fun and we have highly experienced women here in Australia that will mentor and support others. Come and try it!”
Anna Beck - MTB & CX Coach
“Being a part of someone's journey, assisting and witnessing their growth and confidence as an athlete and person, is the ultimate.”
