Oct 14, 2021

Mountain bike trails in the Darling Downs will get a major upgrade with the injection of more than $3m into the expansion of trails and facilities in the region.

The Great Divide Mountain Bike Destination received $3.3million to help create a network of mountain bike trails and associated infrastructure around the Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley region in Queensland at a total cost of $6.6million.

Several other cycling projects have also benefited from the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).

These include:

  • Tasmania received a slice of the funding for two mountain bike projects, one in Zeehan to construct Stage 2 of the Heemskirk Bike Trail which completes the trail network to Mount Agnew on the remote West Coast of Tasmania and construction of green beginner trails at the Clarence Mountain Bike Park in Mornington.
  • More than $5.1million has been granted to the Indigo Shire Council in Victoria to construct the 48km Rutherglen Wine Walk and Cycle Trail.
  • In Western Australia the Splendid Park in Yanchep will receive half a million dollars to upgrade the criterium track.

$300 million has been invested to deliver upgrades to 298 projects around the country through the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).
