Club Of The Week - Mount Gambier Cycling Club

Established in 1885 The Mount Gambier Cycling Club; Club Rooms are situated in Mt. Gambier at Blue Lake Sports Park.

The Blue Lake Sports Park is found on Jubilee Highway East about 2km from city limits. The current facilities have been in use since the 1970’s and we are fortunate to have one of South Australia’s only banked 250meters velodromes.

The Mount Gambier Cycling Club has 70 members and offers both track and cycling races for our members and members from across the Victorian border.

The club hosts the oldest one-day handicap race in Australia – The 100 Mile.

The annual 100 Mile handicap cycle race has a great record of local and national winners and fastest time riders with many of Australia’s champion riders winning or taking fastest time honors.

First run in 1933, local rider Col Sims won a tough race over a hard course through Millicent, Mt Burr, Kalangadoo, Penola before finishing in Mt Gambier along Penola Road.

In addition, we host the regional Limestone Coast Cycling Academy and are home to HPV Super Speedway.

The Limestone Coast Regional Sporting Academy (LCRSA) is partnering with the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) Cycling Program to provide identified athletes in the LCRSA catchment area the opportunity to learn specific skills in the sport of cycling they could continue to work towards, there identified objectives of identifying regional talent educating and developing regional youth and providing pathways to State and National competition in a facility that meets recognized standards for our youth demonstrating, community, belief and value in their talent through investment in facilities.

HPV - The Australian HPV Super Series is an annual championship held in South Australia and Western Australia featuring velomobiles racing around enclosed circuits for a period between 6 and 24 hours.

The largest event of its kind anywhere in the world, it attracts teams from all around Australia, and even overseas. As of 2018, the championship consists of six races taking place at Mount Gambier, Loxton, Adelaide twice, Busselton, and Murray Bridge respectively.
