Classic conditions await Campbell McConnell at CX World Championships

Victorian Campbell McConnell will fly the Aussie flag as part of the ARA Australian Cycling Team at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Liévin, France.

It will be his second time racing at the event after finishing in 69th place in 2024.

"I’m thrilled to be representing Australia in the green and gold and keen to see how I stack up against the best of the best.

The current junior national champion said the weather is perfect for a typical European CX race.

"Heavy rainfall has created a very muddy course which in combination with the freezing temperature and blue sky should make for classic cyclocross conditions," the Alpine Cycling Club member said.

McConnell has been racing in Europe the past few months to acclimatise to the conditions.

McConnell has competed in five CX races in Belgian and two in the Netherlands.

A 40th place at the Hoogerheide World Cup his final hit out before Worlds.

The junior men's race will be live streamed on YouTube from 9pm (AEDT)
