Sep 14, 2022
Canberran cyclist Cameron Rogers has won a $5,000 scholarship from the Sport Australia Hall of Fame (SAHOF).
Rogers was announced today as the winner of a Tier 2 scholarship alongside nine other athletes from sports such as gymnastics, boxing, sport climbing and para swimming.
The 17-year-old is a multiple junior national champion on track and road.
He is currently enjoying an outstanding 2022, which began when he won the under-19 road race national title in Buninyong.

In April, he broke the under-19 individual pursuit national record at the Oceania Championships in Brisbane.
Next week, Rogers will represent Australia at the UCI Road World Championships in Wollongong.
“Being awarded this scholarship opens up so many different opportunities to learn and grow myself and my career,” Rogers said.
“The help and guidance I will receive will help me to become the best athlete I can at this point of my career. It is also valuable because I can make friends out of the other scholarship holders and learn from people in similar shoes to mine.
“I am honoured to be receiving this scholarship as it will make it a much smoother process to get to the results I am working hard to achieve.”

Rogers is a member of Canberra Cycling Club and comes from a family of outstanding cyclists, from his father Peter to his triathlete mother Raeleigh, to his uncles Deane and Michael – the latter a three-time world champion in the time trial.
AusCycling CEO Marne Fechner said, “Congratulations to Cameron on receiving a Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship.
“As he progresses through Australian cycling’s junior ranks, Cameron consistently shows the discipline and passion needed to excel well into the future.”
“It is exciting to see the next generation of ‘Rogers’ excelling on the bike.
“We are thankful for the Sport Australia Hall of Fame’s continued support of our nation’s young cyclists.”

The three-tiered scholarship program is backed by the Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Institute of Sport.
Last week, Victorian cyclist Alyssa Polites was announced as a recipient of a Tier 1 scholarship, which includes one-on-one mentoring from swimmer Liesel Jones.
Previous winners of SAHOF scholarships include Zoe Cuthbert, Luke Plapp and Caroline Buchanan.
