Become a Foundation Instructor

Aug 12, 2021

The Foundation Instructor course is the newest coaching and instructor release in the AusCycling Instructing and Coaching pathway.

It allows coaches to break down what they have learnt as part of their Community Instructor course which is done online (the entry point to the Pathway).

Once they are comfortable and confident with entry level instructing activities (such as working with mini wheelers and assisting other coaches and instructors ) they can go on and learn more about specific skills which can assist BMX riders develop skills they can use during training and when competing.

The Foundation Instructor course is for anyone who wants to work with any riders who have progressed to pedaling a bike from a Mini Wheeler balance bike.

Instructing and coaching allow riders to give back to the sport they adore and the kids love learning from the big kids and heros from the track.

It’s a fantastic activity for family members to do too. The riders love you can talk shop and offer support and guidance. (They also think its very cool that you are involved in BMX).

It also assists the clubs as they are always after coaches. The more coaches the club has the more quality coaching the riders receive.

If you are loving this level of instructing you can then, after 12 months take the next step and complete the Development Coaching – BMX course where you dig deeper into the body, how it works, tactical strategies, healthy eating, a bit of psychology, strength and conditioning and how to maximise performance on the track.

All Foundation Instructor accreditations allow progression to the AusCycling Development Coach and Instructor accreditation in BMX, mountain biking, Road and Track.

Once accredited in one discipline, there is no requirement to re-do the common content modules, facilitating consistent and simpler cross-skilling across disciplines.

The new AusCycling on-line learning and practical assessment booking system allows assessor flexibility in setting up practical assessments and sessions can be added to the calendar at a times that works for those involved - which is fantastic!
