Australians win 11 masters track world championships in Roubaix

A 22-strong contingent of Australian masters track cyclists have won 11 world titles at the the 2024 UCI Masters Track World Championships in Roubaix, France.

The Aussies brought home a total haul of 30 medals over a week of racing from October 5 to 12 at Stab Velodrome.

Gary Mandy finished as the most prolific Australian by winning three world titles in the 65-69 500m time trial and sprint, as well as joining forces with Chris Murray and Geoff Stoker in the 55-64 team sprint to win gold.

Murray and Stoker were the only other Australians to win multiple rainbow jerseys, with Murray tasting world title glory in the 55-59 sprint age group, and Stoker in the 60-64 sprint age group.

Among the medals were four new national record performances from Andrew Mathieson, Stoker , Mandy and Hugh Gray.

Mathieson knocked off a 3:21.847 3000m individual pursuit time en route to winning gold in the 45-49 men; Stoker laid down a 10.985 flying 200m in the 60-64 men; Mandy joined the party via an 11.235 flying 200m in the 65-69 men; and Gray made it three flying 200m national records after posting a 13.474 in the 80+ men.
