AusCycling announces Emerging and Developing athlete categorisations for 2024/25
May 26, 2024
AusCycling is pleased to announce the athletes categorised as Emerging and Developing in the disciplines of track, road, BMX racing, BMX freestyle and mountain bike XCO for 2024/25.
The AusCycling Emerging and Developing categorisation lists contain 98 athletes for the forthcoming 12 months.
Those riders join a further 90 Podium-level categorised athletes in the AusCycling Performance Pathway network.
From the 98 athletes named, 10 have represented the ARA Australian Cycling Team at the elite-level over the past 12 months on the track, road and BMX freestyle park.
Notably, Sarah Nicki is currently competing in the BMX freestyle Olympic Qualifier Series for Australia.
13 of the 23 Emerging or Developing categorised road riders raced in UCI WorldTour events during the summer of cycling earlier this year for the ARA Australian Cycling Team or their respective trade team.
The current crop of talent at the Emerging or Developing level has also delivered five junior world championships in the past 12 months.
On the road in Glasgow last August, Oscar Chamberlain and Felicity Wilson-Haffenden swept the junior individual time trial world championships. On the track in Colombia later that month, Tayte Ryan won the junior men’s 1000m time trial rainbow jersey. Another age-level sweep occurred last week in the USA courtesy of Teya Rufus and Joshua Jolly winning both junior BMX racing world titles.
AusCycling Director of Performance Pathways Donna Rae-Szalinski said she is excited to have observed the level and depth of world-class talent currently in the AusCycling Performance Pathway network.
“The provision of a robust and diverse pathway is essential as a cultivator of the next generation of champions and ultimately the runway to Brisbane 2032,” Rae-Szalinski said.
Athlete categorisation is used to identify, track, and prioritise athletes at each stage of the Performance Pathway, developing a pipeline of athletes to support the national team in consistently winning medals at major international events: namely Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, world championships and Commonwealth Games.
