Adelaide Mountain Bike Club To Bring UCI Racing to Eagle MTB Park

May 21, 2021

On 26 June 2021, AMBC will be hosting "Adelaide XCO p/b Zero Friction Cycling, PREPD Hydration and City of Mitcham" a UCI C2 XCO event and a round of the UCI Junior Series at Eagle Mountain Bike Park, one of South Australia's original mountain bike parks. "Eagle" has had a history of hosting National Championships and National Series Rounds, however in 2021 it will see its first National Cup event under the AusCycling banner.

With the course climbing and descending its way around the faces of the Eagle bowl area (formerly a large road rubble quarry) riders can expect steep rocky slopes, loose gravel and plenty of climbing. Trails will include 'North Face Expressway', 'Southside', 'Sunset Boulevard' and sections of 'The Mixer'. The course layout is likely to be similar to the 2020 AMBC SA State Championships, however, may be tweaked to suit logistical needs and technical regulations.

The event location is ideal for interstate visitors, being situated in metropolitan Adelaide just 8 kilometers from the city center. There are amenities on site, with ample parking in the bowl area. In terms of catering, we've got GG's Baked Potatoes and Yiros, Espresso Mobile and Bridge Road Brewers pop up bar in attendance.

We encourage riders to stick around for racing on Sunday 27 June, where AMBC is hosting a regular club XCO event again at Eagle MTB Park. This presents a great opportunity for a double header weekend of racing.

City of Mitcham Mayor Dr Heather Homes-Ross said "We are looking forward to welcoming interstate and local racers here in June and watching them enjoy the fantastic riding experience at the Eagle Mountain Bike Park. We have over 40kms of wonderful walking and mountain bike trails on Mitcham, with Eagle Mountain Bike Park among them. The UCI listing of the Tier 1 National XCO Race (AusCycling National Cup Gold Event) will attract global recognition for Eagle Mountain Bike Park, an ideal destination for world-class major events. I'm looking forward to seeing this national event become a regular fixture for our local mountain biking enthusiasts, as well as those from further afield."

"AMBC are excited to have the opportunity to host a National level event in Adelaide. We look forward to the opportunity to showcase both the venue - Eagle MTB Park - and other Adelaide trails as well as provide access to National level racing for our local talent. We look forward to welcoming all our interstate visitors to Adelaide". - AMBC President, James Irving

"I'm excited to see another Tier 1 / UCI Junior Series / UCI C2 event added to the calendar in Australia. The technical course will provide another worthwhile development opportunity, and much needed UCI points for XCO athletes while overseas travel is not possible" - Evan James, AusCycling MTB Sport Manager

"We are a continual supporter of AMBC and we are delighted to be on board for this event, with our HQ right across the road! Make sure you are not racing with easily avoided drivetrain friction - Browse through ZFC testing and recommendations to ensure all your hard trained watts get to your back wheel!" - Adam Kerin, Zero Friction Cycling Founder

"PREPD Hydration is looking forward to supporting AMBC for the Tier 1 event. We cannot wait to see how the benefits of optimal hydration with PREPD will help participants at the AMBC Tier 1 XCO achieve their goals" - Andrew Perry, PREPD Hydration Founder
