The worlds toughest MTB race drops in Australia for the first time

Nov 1, 2023

Widely recognised as the most progressive downhill mountain bike event in the world, Red Bull announces Red Bull Hardline is coming down under. Red Bull Hardline will see the bravest mountain bike riders risk it all to win in Australia.

Globally renowned Maydena Bike Park in Tasmania with its massively diverse trail network will host the 2024 Red Bull Hardline Australia edition. The Bike Park is known for its steep and rugged terrain, used to develop some of the world’s most challenging mountain bike trails. In Addition, Red Bull Hardline Australia has received support from Events Tasmania in a continued joint effort to elevate the unique area and outdoor action sports.

Red Bull Hardline Australia edition official race will take place on the 23-24th February, before the event returns once again to Wales’ Dyfi Valley later in the year, on the 1st & 2nd June. Leading up to the race will include a week full of MTB moments and festivities. Red Bull Hardline will take place as the headline event of a 5-day mountain biking festival in Maydena, which includes several events and festivities for the community to be involved in.

Red Bull Hardline is an invite-only event for the most progressive male & female MTB riders in the world and Red Bull Hardline welcomes thousands of spectators for the first time in Australia for one of the best editions yet of this iconic race.  Spectator tickets for Red Bull Hardline Tasmania are available to purchase on Wednesday 1st November at www.redbull.com/au-en/event-series/red-bull-hardline

Celebrating 10 years from conception in the Welsh hills in 2014, Red Bull Hardline founder and MTB Legend Dan Atherton who has built the formidable Welsh track has given his tick of approval to Maydena Bike Track. Dan is in Tasmania to announce the Australian Hardline Event for 2024.

“10 years ago, we never could've imagined that Red Bull Hardline would reach the stage that it’s at now. It’s been so inspiring to watch the progression of the sport; in those early years, riders pushed themselves out of their comfort zone to adapt from riding a typical World Cup course, but recently the roles are reversed and the onus is on me and the team to build a track gnarly enough to showcase the riders' skills.

"As part of that progression we’ve decided to take the event global, with the first satellite event to be held in Tasmania. It’s an awesome place with everything we need to build a longer, faster course that will fit perfectly with the Red Bull Hardline ethos.”

Local trail building company, Dirt Art will be leading the design and construction of the course, with input from Dan and his team.

Red Bull MTB Athlete Tahnee Seagrave is inspired by the progress in downhill and is working to build a structure to bring together an incredible group of talented and eager female athletes with Red Bull’s support to create the best possible opportunities for women’s progression at Red Bull Hardline, and to accomplish as much of the course as possible.

“Red Bull Hardline is THE most difficult mountain bike race in the world and we want to approach the Hardline Women’s Camp in the right way that creates an environment to facilitate and support the progression of the girls at an attainable speed so that more girls can eventually have the opportunity to tackle this course. This approach allows the girls not to be thrown into the deep end but instead truly progress alongside each other to get the best out of the introduction of girls to this level of event.”

Nic Street MP, Minister for Stadia and Events, Tasmanian Government said, “We’re excited to be able to help bring the Red Bull Hardline event to Tasmania for the first time it’s been held outside Wales. We know that Maydena has some of the best and most extreme downhill mountain biking on earth and now the world’s most daring downhill race will prove it.

With thousands of spectators expected to join the best riders in the world at the Maydena Bike Park in February, and millions more catching the footage around the world, supporting world class sports events like this takes out state’s reputation to a global audience.
