Road riders selected for AusCycling Development Academies

As the dust settles on the Giro d’Italia and a young Australian dons the maglia rosa, the future of Australian road cycling continues to look bright, with AusCycling launching development academies for more than 150 young road riders.

The new AusCycling Development Academies have been formed as a component of the pre-performance rider development pathway, seeking to identify, develop, and support riders in targeted age groups to acquire the attributes required to progress through the performance pathways on and off the bike.

"With a primary focus on technical skills, tactics, and holistic education, we aim to underpin our goal of positive youth development and framing strong mindsets around competition and outcomes,” Greg Meyland, AusCycling Pathways Manager (Road and Track) said.

"Our coaches are really taking a proactive approach toward developing a mastery-orientated environment, with a focus on personal improvement and fostering strong relationships.

"The depth of knowledge we must draw on within our coaching teams, mentors and role models is incredible.

"This is an exciting time for Australian cycling."

Donna Rae-Szalinski, Interim Director of Performance Pathways, added, "the development of these Academies is a critical first step in aligning the performance pathway."

There was a tremendous response to the Development Academy’s expression of interest.
