BMX Challenge: Australia secures seven ‘W’ plates on opening day

Australia has secured seven ‘W’ plates on the opening day of the BMX Challenge in Glasgow, highlighted by Cameron Gatt winning the Cruiser Boys 15-16 category.

Almost 50 Aussie riders competed across Cruiser classes in cool but mostly fine conditions at the Glasgow BMX Centre.

Three of the seven ‘W’ plates came from the Cruiser Boys 15-16 final, with Australia dominating the race. Declan McGhee (Mandurah BMX) took second palce behind Gatt (Geelong BMX), while The Cove’s Preston Murray came home in sixth.

Speaking to AusCycling, Gatt said winning his motos helped set up a critical lane choice for the final.

“I had pretty good motos, came through quarters, semis, eighths. Just kept doing what I wanted to do. Came to the final and just chose that Lane One, because this track is all inside, and then just stuck it to them. Got first into the corner and just held it,” Gatt said.

“Bloody happy. I think it's been like ten years I've been trying to do this, so bloody stoked.”

BMX Challenge racing continues tomorrow with the 30+ Cruiser categories and 20" Boys and Girls 8-11.
