The AusCycling Foundation Instructor course equips you with the skills and knowledge to lead introductory cycling sessions for beginners and intermediate riders across your chosen discipline.
Here's what you'll gain:
- Confidence to coach: Learn how to manage group and individual behaviours, risk assessment, skills analysis and development and other teaching techniques.
- Basic bike knowledge: Learn basic mechanical skills and basic bike setup
- Expertise in your chosen discipline: Choose from Mountain Bike, BMX, Road, or Track.
- The ability to develop riders: Plan and deliver engaging skill-building sessions.

Course Requirements:
- Be at least 16 years old
- Hold a current AusCycling membership (minimum Lifestyle membership)
- Possess a Working with Children Check. Visit Play by The Rules to understand Child Safe requirements in each State and Territory.
- Hold a Provide First Aid Certificate (HLTAID003/HLTAID011) as a minimum requirement.
- Complete Sport Integrity Australia’s Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport Induction on the AusCycling Learning Centre.
- Complete Sport Integrity Australia’s Clean Sport 101 course available on the Sport Integrity Australia website

- Mountain Bike: $290
- Road, Track: $240
- BMX: $200

- Choose your discipline: Mountain Bike (in-person only) or BMX, Road, Track (eLearning & in-person).
- Meet the prerequisites (listed above).
- Enrol online:
- For Road, Track and BMX courses, visit the AusCycling Learning Centre, create a profile and enrol on the Foundation Instructor course (Road, Track, BMX).
- For Mountain Bike courses, find a location using the Course Calendar.
- Complete the eLearning modules (BMX, Road, Track only).
- Upload evidence of the other course requirements (including your First Aid Certificate, Working with Children Check, and certificates of completion for the Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport induction and Clean Sport 101 courses.
- Attend a face-to-face practical assessment (all disciplines).

Additional Information
- Face-to-face Assessments are held approximately every 2 – 3 months in major cities. Enrol and start your eLearning modules if there aren’t any assessments near you.
- Don’t let distance hold you back. Remote video assessments are available for those living over 300km from major centres.
- Please contact [email protected] if your club, school, or community group is interested in hosting a course.

- Once you’re accredited in one discipline, only discipline-specific modules and assessments are required for further specialisations.
