Worlds: Hamish McKenzie wins bronze in U23 time trial

In his first year stepping up from juniors into the under 23s, Hamish McKenzie has won a World Championship bronze medal in the individual time trial.

McKenzie, who won silver in Wollongong in juniors last year, put in an impressive performance on the 36.2km course to finish on the podium.

It was a feat made even more impressive by the fact he was the fifth youngest rider to take off from the start ramp yesterday.

McKenzie stopped the clock in a blistering time of 43:51.25 with an average speed of 49.5km/h.

He finished 50.79 seconds off the pace of Italian Lorenzo Milesi who won gold, while Belgium’s Alec Segaert (+11.27) won silver.

Fellow Australian Alastair MacKellar finished 12th while Brady Gilmore came in 34th.

They will join their teammates Dylan Hopkins and Patrick Eddy in the under 23 road race on Saturday.
