Worlds: Joel Green and Tali Lane Welsh saddling up for a marathon ride

Aug 3, 2023

The lungs will be bursting, and the legs will be burning as athletes push themselves through the nearly 100km of punishing climbs and long descents for the Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships at Glentress Forest, Scotland.

Joel Green and Tali Lane Welsh will make their Championships debut when they line up for Australia in the elite men’s race on Sunday August 6.

It's been a big few weeks in the lead-up to the Championships for Green.

“I was actually having a break from training when I first found out about my selection, but I think that was a blessing in disguise,” the Victorian-based rider said ahead of his departure.

“I’ve managed to put a really good block of training in over the last month and the body has responded really well.”

Lane Welsh is also ready for a course that will test riders mentally and physically when he pins the number on for race day.

"It has always been a dream of mine to rep the green and gold, and to have the opportunity to do so at Glasgow is exciting.

“The course looks super hard with a lot of climbing which I think will suit me," he said.

France’s Pauline Ferand Prevot and New Zealand’s Samuel Gaze are the current marathon world champions.
