Marathon riders selected in ARA Australian Cycling Team for 2024 UCI Marathon World Championships

Six riders have been selected to represent the ARA Australian Cycling Team at the 2024 UCI Mountain Bike Marathon World Championships in Snowshoe, United States.

The AusCycling National Selection Panel today confirmed the riders who will compete at the championships in September.

Six-time marathon national champion Brendan Johnston will contest a second World Championships, after making his debut in 2022.

The Canberra athlete will be joined in the green and gold kit by Tali Lane Welsh and Joel Green in the elite men's race who will be heading to their second world championships.

Lane Welsh, who finished 47th at last year’s race in Scotland took out the Otway Odyssey earlier in the year while Green who finished in the top-10 at the AusCycling Marathon National Championships returns to the international stage after a top 60 in 2023’s world event.

In the women, national champion silver medalist Izzy Flint along with bronze medalist Ella Bloor was selected to make their marathon world championships debut.

The team is rounded out by three-time marathon national champion Peta Mullens.

Despite the wealth of experience the Bendigo rider brings, it will also be her first marathon world championship.
