Feb 1, 2021

Australian cyclist Heinrich Haussler has finished 35th at the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championships in Ostend, Belgium.

Haussler, was one of 44 riders from 15 nations to line up on the final day of racing at the famous beachside venue.

The rainbow jersey was won by Mathieu van der Poel (Netherlands), who claimed a phenomenal fourth Elite title.

The course featured a spectacular circuit with a 135m long, 8m high bridge connecting the beach with the Wellington hippodrome.

Riders raced over a 2,900m course divided into eight sectors. The surface was predominantly grass (1,326m), while sand sections represented about a fifth of the course (565m).

The main bridge was the killer as riders ascended a 21% gradient.

Haussler who rides for the (Bahrain-Victorious) team on the road is finding himself competing in cross much more and plans to do two more races in Belgium later in the month.
