Glasgow Daily - August 3

Welcome to the Glasgow Daily! Over the next 11 days, prepare to be awed, amazed and astounded by the sensational cyclists and riders of the ARA Australian Cycling Team.

120 athletes have arrived, or are arriving, in Scotland for the first-ever multi-discipline festival of cycling called these UCI Cycling World Championships, which officially begin today (although we’ve already been racing – figure that one out!)

Track, Downhill, Road, BMX Racing, Trials, Para-cycling, Cross-Country and BMX Freestyle – our brilliant Aussies will tackle them all. They’ll do our green-and-gold stripes proud, even as they aim to swap them for a set of rainbow bands.

Here’s what Chef de Mission of the team, Paul Brosnan, had to say today in Glasgow:

“The preparations have been terrific. Everyone’s in good shape. I’m looking forward to how everyone puts forward their best performance on the day.

“There are so many Australians competing, this team is quite large, so I think it’s going to be exciting to see some new names, some younger talent coming up.

“Across the board, with lots of teams competing at the same time, there will be lots to look forward to: lots of entertainment, and a great cycling festival.”
