Expressions of interest for riders to join the AusCycling BMX Racing Development Academy 2026 program are now open until Sunday, November 23.
The AusCycling Development Academies were formed in 2022 as a component to the pre-performance rider and coach development pathway.
The Academies seek to identify and develop riders and coaches to support their performance development and assist acquiring the attributes to support them through the performance pathways.
The Academies provide structured training opportunities and coaching support with the aim of supporting the daily training environment of targeted riders. The target age groups for BMX racing range from ages 14 to 18.
The BMX Racing Academy will focus on specific training sessions and camps throughout 2026.
The national coach will be responsible for setting the training dates. Training sessions will be held, aligning with the National Series and National Championships. An annual National Camp will be held for selected riders that meet the National Tier selection criteria
The specific purposes of the Academies include:
- Providing targeted training sessions or camps
- Enhancing and complimenting the primary daily training environment (DTE)
- Developing consistent development opportunities across all States and Territories
- Increasing the number of riders meeting key performance targets
- Provide cross-discipline opportunities
Selection Criteria Information
Note: Selection criteria is based solely on 20-inch results.
- Top 16 at 2025 UCI BMX Racing World Challenge (13-16 age groups only)
- Top eight at 2025 GWM BMX Racing National Championships (13-16 age groups and/or Junior Superclass and Superclass)
- Top eight at a 2025 AusCycling BMX Racing National Series round (13-16 age groups and/or Junior Superclass and Superclass)
Results must meet the performance standards set by Development Academy National Manager. Discretionary selection criteria is available to be used by Development Academy National Manager (refer to pages four to six of BMX Racing Academy information).
